Percy Goes To Egypt

This week Percy sent us a postcard from Cairo, the capital city of Egypt.  He told us that he had visited The Great Pyramids of Giza.  The Pyramids were used as tombs for the pharaohs (ancient rulers) of the time.  Today, The Pyramids are a popular place for many tourists.  They are an important part of history, these amazing structures were built from limestone blocks and have been there for nearly 2000 years!

While in Egypt, Percy went on a camel ride, although the ride was a little bumpy - he still got to see the sights from high above.  He went for a ride through the desert, where he just missed a terrible sandstorm. Percy told us that the weather was extremely hot and dry.

Percy visited a spice market in Egypt.  He was blown away by the beautiful smells and tastes of Egypt. Percy noticed the people around him were speaking a different language.  They were speaking in Arabic.

Percy learned that Cairo was a bustling city...a world away from the ancient Egypt he had read and heard about.  He was amazed at the old and the new.  Percy was surprised at how modern the city of Cairo actually was...

Finally, Percy  took a cruise down the Nile, the longest river in the world! He caught a glimpse of the Nile Crocodile.  The largest crocodile in Africa and also one of the largest in the world. It can weigh up to 1,500 pounds and eats animals that come to the water to drink.  It usually hunts gazelle, buffalo, wild dogs and wildebeest.

We'll have to wait and see where Percy is next week.......

Percy Visits China

This week Percy sent us a postcard from Beijing, the capital city of China.  He visited Tiananmen Square, The Great Wall of China, a zoo where he saw some giant pandas and the National Stadium (Bird's Nest). That was the one that had you all guessing what that strange looking building actually was! Here are some pictures Percy sent to us.

Around the World in 40 Days

AROUND THE WORLD IN 40 DAYS

Welcome to 1Blue's blog.  This term we are learning about countries around the world.  Our class mascot, Percy Penguin will be travelling around the the world to help us learn about different people and their cultures.  We said farewell to Percy last Friday.  Today we received a parcel from Percy.  He sent us a postcard from Ayres Rock.  He wrote many interesting facts about Uluru.  He also included many pictures of things relating to Australia.  We can't wait for next week to see where he will travel to next.  We will be asking Percy questions about different countries.  Hopefully he has the time to answer some of them or just maybe someone else out there might be able to help us find the answers...
